Themes Planned For Rose Show

Local rose growers who enter arrangements in the Huron Valley Rose Society annual exhibit on Sunday, June 17, are to follow the theme “The Language of Roses in the World.” Alfa Coley, chairman of arrangements for the Rose Show, has announced the following titles and types of arrangements which may be entered:

“Exploring the Universe” is to be a modern or abstract arrangement, suggesting space exploration. “From Far Away Places” calls for a Japanese style. “The Light of the World” should be a traditional arrangement, suggesting faith and understanding, and featuring candles. Also traditional, “The Early Days” arrangements are to feature an antique container.

Growers of miniature roses are to devise arrangements suggesting a particular country of the world, which shall be stated on the entry tag. This new division in the show is entitled “International Intrigue.”

Junior exhibitors (17 years and younger) may enter any arrangement which depicts the theme, “Freedom.”

All arrangements, except those by Juniors, must contain roses grown by the arranger in an outdoor garden. All roses used must be correctly labeled by name.

Any interested individuals are invited to enter original arrangements in the show. Entries must be made between 7 and 10 a.m. on Sunday morning, June 17, at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens on Dixboro Road. Members of the Huron Valley Rose Society will be on hand to assist with entry procedures.

After judging has been completed, the Rose Show will be open to the public from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
