Foundry Project Get Approval

The renovation of the former Ann Arbor Foundry into a residential and office complex was approved by City Council Monday night.

The project involves renovation of an existing structure and construction of a new one to create office space and eight apartments. The redevelopment is being done by the Fry-Peters Associates architectural firm, and will be called the Northern Brewery in honor of one of the property’s first uses.

Council also approved two ordinance amendments aimed at more fully informing residents of special assessments and zoning changes. Council increased from seven days to 10 days the amount of notice residents must receive before a public hearing on special assessments. It also required the city to send notices of pending zoning changes to occupants of property, as well as the owners, when a piece of property within 300 feet is being proposed for rezoning.
