Fire Hazard
Fire Hazard
Wreckers are tearing down a wing of the old U-M observatory built in 1908, as ordered by the U-M Board of Regents in March. The structure, according to regents, is a fire hazard and not worth renovation. The original observatory, bearing the smaller dome partly visible at the right, was built in 1854. U-M plans call for preserving the older building and landscaping the grounds. Razing is being done by Bierlein Building Movers of Saginaw for $34,300. (News photo by Robert Chase)
