200 Protest VA Nurses’ Conviction
About 200 persons gathered at Ypsilanti’s old city hall Sunday in support of two nurses who were convicted of poisoning patients at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital.
The demonstration was part of a continuing protest of last month’s guilty verdict in the 13-week trial of Leonora Perez and Filipina Narciso.
Perez, 33, of Ann Arbor, and Narciso, 32, of Ypsilanti, were convicted of conspiracy and using a paralyzing drug to poison five hospitalized veterans during the summer of 1975.
The women remain free under $75,000 bail pending sentencing some time next month by U.S. District Court Judge Philip Pratt.
