DAM WORK - Huron River levels have been fluctuating lately because of work being done on Ann Arbor's four city-owned dams, mandated under federal law and under control of the U.S. Corps of Engineers. At Barton Dam, above, workmen are shown repairing some of the washouts that have occurred below the dam, while water is held back from the area by a coffer dam. Other work being done on the dam includes repainting of all iron work, which will also be required on the other three dams. Because of the work, levels of Argo Pond below Barton have been lowered this week. City officials hope to be able to raise the water level in Argo the end of this week, or early next week, but they will have to be lowered again later for work on Argo Dam itself.
