Parkridge work held up by strike

YPSILANTI -- Completion of the work at the Parkridge Community Center on the city's south side has been delayed because of a strike by sheet metal workers. Originally, the facility was expected to be completed by June 30.

Suzanne Remien/Fejes, a community development specialist, said the earliest work on the center would be done is July 20. She said the work had been on schedule prior to the strike which began a month ago.

Construction on the $400,000 project began last fall. The venture is being financed with federal funds from the Community Development Block Grant program.

The project includes a 2,600-square-foot addition and renovation of the present center. Among additions will be an office, storage area, meeting rooms, a darkroom, printing room, food services area, restrooms, games area, activities area, a multi-purpose room and a library.

Fejes said an open house would probably be held sometime in August.
