Springer, Walter W. 1939 Jackson Ave.

Age 89, died Tuesday, October 13, 1981 at his home after an extended illness. Born December 6,1891, in Bridgewater, Mich., he was the son of William G. and Pauline Nissle Springer. Mr. Springer had been a resident of Washtenaw County all of his life. He was married to Ruth Forshee January 1, 1919; she died November 11, 1976. Mr. Springer was a member of the First Congregational Church and a former trustee of the church. He was a member of the downtown Ann Arbor Kiwanis Club, president in 1935, member of the Elks Lodge No. 325, Golden Rule Lodge No. 159 F&AM, Ann Arbor Commandry KT No. 13, and the Zal Gaz Grotto. Mr. Springer was president of the Ann Arbor Board of Education in 1948. He start in the insurance business in 1926, retiring as president of Springer-Kleinschmidt Agency in 1974. He was a veteran of World War I. Survivors include: one son, Sheridan W. Springer of Gregory, Mich.; one daughter, Mrs. John (Suzanne) Holland of Ann Arbor; seven grandchildren; three step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. A Memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Congregational Church with the Rev. Terry N. Smith officiating. Contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church or the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor Foundation. Friends may call at the Muehlig Chapel from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday.
