Fallen Legends

Two Paul Bunyan statues, landmarks at the Paul Bunyan restaurant on Jackson Road in Scio Township for the last 20 years, are surveyed by owner Tom Urquhart, who decided to remove them as part of a plan to change the restaurant's image. Urquhart, in addition to doing extensive renovations, has applied to the state for a new name for his business and planted blue spruce trees in place of the statues. Urquhart says he has gotten some reaction to the change from his younger patrons: " 'What happened to the strong men?' the little kids ask me," he said.
