Gelman acquires California firm

Gelman Sciences Inc. has acquired a California developer of membrane filtration products and processes.

Board Chairman Charles Gelman said the company has purchased substantially all of the assets of Puropore Inc. of Tustin, Calif., a subsidiary of Purolator Inc., headquartered in Piscataway, N.J.

Puropore has worked in the development of polymeric membrane filtration products and processes. The products include high particle-holding capacity membrane microfilters, hollow fibers in a number of configurations, and ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis membranes.

Robert Kesting will join Gelman as a result of the Puropore acquisition. He has been working in the polymeric membrane area for more than 20 years and has been awarded more than 30 membrane patents.

“We believe this gives us technological superiority in our industry,” Gelman said. “The mix of Puropore products and technology, plus our strong manufacturing capabilities in marketing and distribution units, should accelerate our future growth.”

Gelman Sciences Inc. develops and manufactures microfiltration products and systems and biomedical apparatus, serving the health-care, laboratory, and process industries around the world from operations in Ann Arbor; Northampton, England; Brussels, Belgium; Sydney, Australia; Montreal; and Dublin, Ireland.
