Cornell, Cornish get Realtor posts

Two Realtors with Coldwell Banker/Old Town Realty have received key posts with the Michigan Association of Realtors at the association’s annual convention in Traverse City.

Peter M. Cornell of Ann Arbor was elected 1987 first vice president of the Michigan association, one of the state’s largest trade associations. William Cornish of Ypsilanti was re-elected district vice president.

Elizabeth “Libby” Wright of Flint was elected president of the state association, and Robert W. Heindrichs of Grand Rapids was names secretary/treasurer. 

Cornell, a licensed broker with Coldwell Banker at 2301 Packard, is a 1969 graduate of the University of Michigan and has been active in real estate for 17 years. He served as secretary/treasurer of the state Realtors association in 1985 and as a district vice president in 1984, representing the Ann Arbor area, greater Lansing, Livingston County, Jackson, Hillsdale and Lenawee. 

Cornell has also served as a member of the association's board for several years and as a member and/or chairman of a number of state Realtor committees.

As a member of the Ann Arbor Area Board of Realtors, Cornell served on and chaired numerous committees. He has been a board director and served as its president in 1982. He was named the board's Realtor-of-the-Year in 1983.

He was also a member of the Ypsilanti Board of Realtors, (now merged with the Ann Arbor Area Board), where he served as director. 

Cornell also represents the state association as a director of the National Association of Realtors and as a member of the National Professional Standards Committee. He is a certified professional standards instructor. 

Cornell is a member of the Realtors National Marketing Institute and Realtors Alumni of Michigan. And he holds designations as a Graduate, Realtors Institute and a Certified Residential Specialist. He serves as an instructor for the Education Department of the Michigan Association of Realtors. 

Cornell has also served as president of the local Kiwanis Club and as representative of the area athletic booster club. And he has served on the board of the University of Michigan Graduate "M" Club. 

Cornell will be installed during the association's winter meeting in Flint in early January. 

Meanwhile, as district vice president, Cornish represents Michigan Association of Realtors members in District 7, encompassing Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Livingston, Jackson, Washtenaw, Hillsdale and Leawee counties. He will be responsible for supervising the activity of the association in the district and act as the representative of the president. 

Cornish is a partner of Coldwell Banker/Old Town Hall Realty which has offices in Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor.

A Realtor since 1978, Cornish served as a district vice president this year. He has served as a member of the association's board since 1981 and has been on several state committees, including multiple listing, standard forms and legislative steering.

Cornish has also served on committees of the National Association of Realtors. He has earned designations as Graduate, Realtors Institute, Certified Residential Specialist, and Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager. 

As a member of the Ann Arbor Area Board of Realtors, Cornish was elected vice president in 1980 and president in 1981. He was selected by members of the Ypsilanti board as its Realtor-of-the-Year in 1981. 

Cornish has been an Ypsilanti area Jaycee and has served as a trustee of the First United Presbyterian Church.
