Garbage Sifted For Slaying Clues
Garbage sifted for slaying clues
Ann Arbor police began sifting through 276 cubic yards of garbage today in an attempt to find a purse belonging to Nancy Faber, 39, who was shot on the northeast side of Ann Arbor by an unknown gunman last Tuesday and died Friday.
The garbage comes from the Green Brier apartments, the Green Road public housing complex, and the University of Michigan printing building at 1919 Green Road.
Faber was found slumped over the steering wheel of her dark blue 1978 Ford Fairmont in the mouth of the driveway of that building.
There were no signs of a struggle in the car, but Faber’s purse was missing at the scene. Police have theorized that her assailant forced her into the car in the parking lot in front of Kroger’s in the Plymouth-Green Shopping Center where she purchased groceries at about 8 p.m., and coerced her into driving less than a quarter-mile down Green Road to the spot where she was discovered minutes later.
Between 75-100 phone calls have been received by Ann Arbor police on a special tip line installed following the shooting.
Meanwhile, the reward being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the slaying has grown to $7,000. The News is offering $5,000, while WAAM radio and the Glacier Area Home Owners Association have each contributed $1,000.
Close to 10,000 flyers containing information about the reward have been distributed in the city by The News and Neighborhood Watch groups.
