Jim Harbaugh doesn't choose to view himself as the Big Ten's first NCAA passing leader or the quarterback of Michigan's highest-ranked footbfall team in 37years. lnstead, he looks in the mirror and sees the only Bo Schembechler era quarterback who hasn't played ln the Rose Bowl. That's Harbaugh, a pl!'rfecllonist. "lt'll be nice to look back on thlngs like records and magazine covers," said Harbaugh. "But right now I don't want to think about those things too much. I want to get better, and can't be happy with what I've done. In my mind, I'm still a little kid trying to proved I'm not here just because my dad coached for Bo."

Jack Harbaugh, now the head coach at Western Michigan, coached defensive backs at Michigan. The quarterback's best friends are his older brother John and his father. Schembechler was his boyhood idol. The two coaches in his life have always been on a pedestal. So, when both men told Jim he would never make it, their messages were taken to heart. "l was tO years old. ptaylng ln a baseball game ll. Clinton Elementary Sehoon Park and sot ptcked otf first base." reealled Harbaugh, who grew up in Allll ArbOr."l got up.
