Teen-aged joyriders stopped at gunpoint
A 15-year-old Superior Township boy and his 13-year-old female companion were taken into police custody Sunday after they took the girl's aunt's car, drove the wrong way on a one-way street and then fled from police. Ypsilanti Sgt. Vernon Usher said he spotted the couple - with the boy behind the wheel - driving northbound on southbound Hamilton Street about 1:50 a.m. Sunday and tried to stop them but they sped off. He caught up with the car at Frog Island park near Depot Town and ordered both teen-agers out of the car at gunpoint. The boy was cited for driving without a license, fleeing and eluding police. The Ypsilanti girl was not charged and both were released.
