Police throw party for kids

YPSILANTI - Getting into the holiday spirit, Ypsilanti police officers threw a Christmas party for underprivileged children Thursday night at the Parkridge Community Center.

The annual party drew about 100 children ranging in ages from babies to 11 years old, and Santa Claus passed out stuffed animals, coloring books, and basketballs, said Ypsilanti police Sgt. Marilyn Moore. The toys were donated in part by area merchants, and all the cookies were donated by local shops, she said.

“We enjoy seeing the little kids’ faces light up,” Moore said. “I got a lot of hugs last night.”

Moore said the party was a big success and officers and children alike enjoyed themselves.
