Schrepper, Irene Stuart

Age 89. Irene Stuart Schrepper died Saturday, July 8, 1989, at the Gilbert Residence in Ypsilanti. Mrs. Schrepper was born September 9, 1899, in Cheseaning, MI to Frank and Anna (Schlachter) Stuart. She moved to Ypsilanti in 1903 with her widowed mother and younger brother, Arthur, because Mrs. Stuart wished to raise her children in a college town. Irene received her Teachers Certificate in 1919 from Michigan State Normal College (EMU) and taught in the Detroit and Ypsilanti School Districts until her marriage to Robert Schrepper in Ypsilanti. Mr. Schrepper owned Schrepper Electrical Co. until his death in 1974. Irene was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janet, who died in 1941. She is survived by one daughter, Joan Leininger of West Bloomfield, MI; two sisters-in-law, Cecelia Stuart of Grosse Pointe, MI and Bertha Eaton of Orlando, Florida. In addition, Mrs. Schrepper has three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a lifetime member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Ypsilanti, the Washtenaw Country Club, The Ladies Literary Club, Ypsilanti Historical Society and was the oldest living member of Theta Lambda Sigma Sorority. Prayers will be recited Wednesday, July 12, at 10:15 a.m. at the GEER-LOGAN FUNERAL HOME, 320 N. Washington, Ypsilanti, followed by Rite of Christian Burial being celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, 410 W. Cross, Ypsilanti with the Rev. Father Edmond Ertzbischoff and the Rev. Father David Harvey as Co-Celebrants. Interment will follow at St. John Catholic Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Monday from 6:30-9 p.m.; Tuesday, 1-4 and 6:30-9 p.m. with the rosary service at 7:30 p.m. The family suggests, anyone wishing to do so, may contribute to the Robert and Irene Memorial Fund at St. John's Catholic Church or to the Ypsilanti Historical Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
