HOLIDAY DINNERS - Holidays can be lonely for those not surrounded by loved ones. Bill Hersch, 74, wipes away a tear as he eats at Beyer Hospital and remembers better times when his wife, Alice, was alive. He spent the day visiting his niece, who works at Beyer. The hospital provided low-cost meals for senior citizens. Several other places around the county provided free turkey dinners for the needy. Among them: Cottage Inn on William Street in Ann Arbor, which served or distributed 400 such meals. Owner Nick Michos belongs to a Greek-American philanthropic organization. Some members of that group pitched in to help. Story on A3.
