RAISING THE ROOF

Performers of all stripes pitch in to support the Network

In celebration of its eighth year of productions, the Performance Network will be holding its annual “Raise the Roof” variety benefit showcase on Friday and Saturday.

PREVIEW

Johanna Broughton, Performance Network’s program manger, commented that “the point of show is to raise funds and provide an evening to give each of the exceptional artists performing during the event a chance to do something completely new. For example, Andy Boller, who normally is a keyboardist, will pull out an acoustic guitar, and Whitley Setrakian will perform with Theater Grostesco for the first time. It’s an amazing feeling to provide an event to make these performances possible.”

In addition to Boller, Setrakian and Theater Grotesco, the showcase will feature John Sinclair, Noonie Anderson, Eric Anderson Workers Lives Workers Stories, Martin Simmons, Peter Sparling, GKW, David Menefee, Joe Tiboni, Men Working, O.J. Anderson, Elise Bryant, Arwulf Arwulf and Marc Taras, Charmie Gohlson, Intersect Dance Theater Company, George Bedard, Young People’s Theater, Satori Circus, Anne Stoll, and Frank Allison and the Odd Sox, and will kick off with a buffet reception on both nights from 6:30-8 p.m. Performances begin at 8 p.m. on both evenings, and there will be a dance party on Saturday beginning at 11 p.m. with music provided by Frank Allison and the Odd Sox. The event will take place at the Performance Network, located at 408 W. Washington St.

“Raise the Roof” is sponsored by Shear Impact, PJ’s Records and the Del Rio bar. All the artists participating in this year’s benefit have donated their services, and business sponsors have pledged $2 per ticket sold. In addition, 20 local business have contributed $1,500 worth of food, paint and supplies for the “Raise the Roof” event.

Tickets to “Raise the Roof” are $15 each night, and includes that night’s buffet reception and admission to the Saturday dance party. Tickets to the dance party only are $5 at the door. Tickets are available at Schoolkids Records and Tapes, PJ’s Records and Afterwords.
