Ann Arbor Flower and Garden Show moves to Saline

The Ann Arbor Flower and Garden Show will bloom at a new location next year: the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds in Saline.

The show, which has been at Yost Ice Arena, will take place April 2-5 next year. The event raises money for the University of Michigan’s Matthaei Botanical Gardens.

“Yost Ice Arena was wonderful to work with, but we just basically outgrew the facility,” said Karen Fine of Matthaei Botanical Gardens. She said the arena will soon be renovated and may only host athletic events.

The garden show had fewer visitors this year than in previous years, perhaps because of a mix up with Ticketmaster outlets in which some ticket buyers were told that the show was sold out. Fine said the incident did not spur the move.

Fine said the new site was chosen because it offers easy access to 1-94, provides ample parking and features a more rural atmosphere.

The show’s organizers now are accepting exhibitor applications for exotic plant specimens, unique floral arrangements, educational and plant society exhibits and a garden marketplace.
