Annual rose tour

. SEP 421991

is coming up this weekend

Three of the area’s representative rose gardens will be open this Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to visitors interested in rose culture.

Sponsored by the Huron Valley Rose Society,, the annual rose tour' provides an opportunity to see established rose beds cared for by experienced rose hobbyists.

The stops:

■ The tour begins in Willis at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Taylor. With over 800 plants, the Taylors have been seriously involved in rose growing and exhibiting for many years.

The collection is notable not only for size, but for its many uncommon roses, including many that Tom has hybridized himself.

■ From Willis, the tour will visit

Michelle Morris’s gardens in Ann Arbor Hills. She grows about 150 roses displayed in numerous landscaped gardens, including a collection of Austin English roses mixed in a perennial bed.

■ The last stop is Helen Graham’s garden in west Ann Arbor.

Her roses include about 225 hybrid teas, floribundas, and miniatures. Her interest in roses is longstanding; some of her plants are over 30 years old and are still winning trophies.

Desserts and soft drinks will be served here.

The tour is free and open to anyone interested in visiting the gardens.
