Summer Festival chiefs named

The Board of Trustees of the Ann Arbor Summer Festival has announced a new slate of officers and two new volunteer directors. The appointments were made by unanimous vote at the Festival’s Annual Meeting on Nov. 20.

Ruth Tonn Whitaker was elected to office as the new festival chairman.

Whitaker takes the place of former chairman Alan M. Mandel, following Mandel's four-year tenure in the post.

Additional officer appointments to the board include: Ronald M. Cresswell, president; Margaret Massialas, vice president; William B. Krumm, vice president; James S. Reece, treasurer; Jeffrey J. Colton, secretary; and Phyllis Wright, assistant secretary.

The Festival Board divides its membership equally between those appointed by the Regents of the University of Michigan and those appointed by Ann Arbor City Council.

New trustees elected to three-year terms were political consultant Ellen Offen, representing the City of Ann Arbor, and University of Michigan representative Hazen Schumacher.

By special resolution of the Board, J.P. Weidenbach was appointed trustee emeritus in appreciation for his years of service and commitment to the Festival.

Festival Trustee Rosalie Edwards will serve a one-year term as president of the Festival’s Volunteer Friends’ Council.
