Services set for Mary Kessel
A funeral service is set Friday for Mary Kessel, an Ann Arbor business woman and founding member of the Ann Arbor Civic Theatre.
Kessel, who died Wednesday, ran the Kessel’s Fashion shop in the Nickels Arcade until retiring in 1974. There also was a Kessel’s on Main Street. She was among a group of eight theater enthusiasts who started the local civic theater in 1929, and had remained active in the theater.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. at Beth Israel Congregation, 2000 Washtenaw Ave. The family requests no flowers. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Ann Arbor Civic Theatre or the church or synagogue of one’s choice. Burial will be in Cincinnati.
