Former parks director Abbott dies
Edwin L. "Bud" Abbott, who was director of Ypsilanti Parks and Recreation until he retired in 1972, died Friday in Orlando, Fla. He was 80.
Abbott, credited with helping to build up local youth baseball programs, was former state chairman of Little League, president of the Michigan Recreation and Parks Association, and a director of the U.S. Hockey Association.
Abbott, a former president of the Ypsilanti Optimist Club, was past governor of the Michigan District of Optimist International, and past International vice president of Optimist International.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Moore Memorial Chapel, Stark Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Washtenong Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6:30 p.m. Monday.
