Gelman allies with Filtertek

FROM NEWS STAFF REPORTS

Filtertek, Inc. of Hebron, Ill., and Gelman Sciences of Scio Township near Ann Arbor today announced the formation of a strategic alliance to pursue an evolving market for automotive vent devices.

The strategic alliance involves Gelman Sciences’ newly developed, moisture-resistant membrane material. Versapor R is resistant to moisture, fuels and oils used in transmission, engine and braking systems.

The alliance gives Gelman access to Filtertek’s distribution network and insert injection molding device manufacturing expertise, said Kim Davis, Gelman’s president and chief operating officer.

Ronald Kay, president of Filtertek’s North American Operations, expects the automotive vent market will be a significant growth market for the new material.

Automotive vent applications would include uses in fuel systems, transmissions, electronic control modules, rear axles, headlights, anti-lock braking systems and power window/seat motors.

Filtertek, Inc. (NYSE: FTK) develops and manufactures injection molded filtration and custom products to the automotive, health-care and industrial markets.

Gelman Sciences (AMEX: GSC), headquartered on Wagner Road just west of Ann Arbor, develops and manufactures microfiltration membranes used in scientific, industrial and medical applications.
