Library serving blind, handicapped plans event

The Washtenaw County Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped will hold an open house Friday from 1 to 4 p.m.
The public is invited to take this opportunity to become acquainted with the Talking Book program and other services provided to blind and physically handicapped patrons in Washtenaw, Livingston, Jackson, Monroe and Lenawee Counties.
New materials purchased with funds provided under the Older Americans Act will be featured at the open house. These include new large print books and many items for the library’s collection of aids and appliances for the blind and physically handicapped.
The open house will also honor Ruthe Marshall, librarian, who has been with the library since its beginning in 1972 and will retire Oct. 26.
The library, located at 4133 Washtenaw Road, is part of a national network of libraries serving the blind and physically handicapped. Regular hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and the telephone number is 971-6059.
