Sister-city trip to Senegal postponed

A long-planned visit by a group of local students and educators to one of Ann Arbor’s sister cities has been postponed from this month until July. The trip to Dakar, Senegal, now is slated for July 14-23 in order to allow organizers more time to line up participants and donors to defray expenses for students to take part in the trip.

“I think it’s just a matter of mobilizing the forces,” said Richard Ross, of the African-American and African Foundation on Science, Education and Economic Development, which is organizing the trip.

Ross said 14 travelers are currently scheduled to make the trip, but that organizers have raised only about $9,000 of the $42,000 needed to make the trip a reality.

The trip also includes a side visit to Accra, Ghana. For information on the trip or to make a donation, call Ross at (734) 663-7082.
