Platte, Richard Laurence
Ann Arbor, MI
Born on September 24, 1924; died on Tuesday, May 15, 2001. Son of Verna and Arthur Platte. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William N. Platte. He is survived by his wife of over fifty years, Dorothy Lawrence Platte; and two sons, Richard L. Jr. (Leslie) of Ann Arbor, and Bruce A. (Jane) of Petoskey; six grandchildren, Jamie, Julie, Beau and Peter of Petoskey, Nathan and Erin of Ann Arbor. A lifelong resident of Ann Arbor, he graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, in the European Theatre. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Art and Design. He was employed at Clinton Engines, Uniloy, and most recently was self-employed, designing bottles and molds. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served many years as a Scoutmaster of Troop 7. He made it to Machu Picchu, a lifetime dream. He loved literature, art and architecture, and woodworking. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2001 in John Monteith Hall at the First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel on Thursday, from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Michigan Nature Conservancy, 2840 E.
