Tanner, Maxwell E.

Ann Arbor, Ml

Age 83, passed away March 25, 2003. Born February 2, 1920 in Ionia, MI. The son of Phyllis Lavanda (nee Holl) and Glen E. Tanner. Preceded in death by his parents, his wife Kathryn and infant son Timothy. Dear father of Charles (Marianne) Smith, Anthony (Mildred) Smith, Vincent (Valore) Tanner and Michelle Tanner. Loving grandfather of eight. Mr. Tanner resided in Ionia, MI throughout his boyhood, graduated from Ionia High School in 1938. In the fall of 1940 he enrolled at Western Michigan College in Kalamazoo with majors in Education, English and History. Upon graduation in 1944, he entered graduate school at the University of Michigan studying English literature. While going to school he got a job with Kaiser at Willow Run as a timekeeper. On September 20, 1947, he married Kathryn J. (nee Peck) Smith, daughter of Floyd and Nellie Peck of Sturgis, MI. He and Kathryn purchased a historic Ann Arbor home that eventually led them into renting rooms and apartments to students. Max retired as a financial control analyst at Ford Motor Company Engineering in Dearborn in 1984. He and his wife traveled through the states and Europe. The family will receive friends on Friday from 9:30 A.M. until time of service at 10:30 A.M. at the MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL Ann Arbor. Burial to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Ann Arbor.
