Lowe, Rev. Herbert R.

The son of Russell and Lena Lowe, Pastor/ Teacher of the Amistad Community Church UUC, and a life-long advocate of social, racial and economic justice, passed away peacefully Friday, March 19, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Klosterman Lowe; his sisters, Doris Kittendorf and Arlynn Lowe; his children, Roderic, Kimberly, Kirsten, Rolf (Mandi) Lowe and Barbara Gores; his grandchildren, Meghan Lowe, Ashleigh Lowe, Alana and Adriana Cunningham, Angela (Rob) Walker, Aaron (Tanya) Gores, Kerri (Adam) Tomakich; three great-grandchildren; and nephews, nieces and friends. In his ministry he served Bethlehem UCC, Church of the Good Shepherd, Faith-Trinity UCC in Warren, and was the organizing and called Pastor/Teacher of Amistad Community Church in Ann Arbor. His service beyond the local church included but was not limited to, the Commission for Racial & Social Justice, UCC, Ministers for Racial, Social and Economic Justice, United Black Christians, NAACP, NAAPID and Board of Directors for the Evangelical Homes of Michigan. The family will receive friends at the NIE FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2400 Carpenter, Ann Arbor on Tuesday from 4-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 12 Noon-8 p.m. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 25th at St. Johns UCC, 2744 Fourth St., Wyandotte, MI and a Home Going Celebration will be held at New Hope Baptist Church, 218 Chapin St, Ann Arbor on Friday, March 26th at 7 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to either The Amistad Community Church Herbert R. Lowe Education Endowment Fund, the Eden Seminary, Arbor Hospice, Elmhurst College or to a charity of your choice
