Thousands of kids have gotten their first haircut in the Dascola Barbers’ Little Red Mustang kiddie car since the car was first used in Dascola’s Arborland shop in 1966.
On Sunday from 2-4 p.m. Dascola Barbers is throwing a 40th birthday party for the Mustang at its current location, the upstairs shop at 3041/2 S. State St.
Barber Bob Dascola says e-mail word of mouth has kept a constant stream of youngsters piling in and out of the Mustang, even though his shop is no longer at street level.
He’ll provide balloons and birthday cake for as long as they last, and it looks like Dascola is going to give this Mustang birthday a good ride. In addition to the party on Sunday, he’s bought a replica pedal car that will be part of the Rolling Sculpture Car Show in June.
He plans to put the original car from the shop in the Ann Arbor Fourth of July Parade, accompanied by a couple of people who got their first haircuts in it.
