FOCUS: RECALL IN PITTSFIELD

Officials show lack of concern for safety

As a father of two preschool girls, a pediatrician and a Democrat, I support the recall in Pittsfield Township.

I am not against Wal-Mart having a location in Pittsfield Township but I am opposed to the proposed location. It is irresponsible to allow Wal-Mart to build on the corner of State Road and Michigan Avenue near three schools.

Despite pleas from parents, our township officials have done very little to make this development safer for our schoolchildren.

As a pediatrician, I am concerned about the traffic hazards this store will create. Due to this new development, it is estimated that 20,000 cars per day will travel around or near our schools. The Michigan Department of Transportation has admitted that the increased traffic on US-12 may delay the response times of emergency vehicles to the schools on that corner. This is unacceptable.

This recall effort is nonpartisan. Democrats, Republicans and independents are standing up to the intimidation, bullying and lack of concern for the public shown by James Walter, Christina Lirones and Feliziana Meyer.

Remember to vote “yes” on Aug. 8.

Brian E. Woodruff, Pittsfield Township
