Industrialist, Dies
Saline, MI
Dale Pershing Fosdick died Friday July 20th at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Ann Arbor surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Fosdick was born September 13, 1918 in Ann Arbor at St. Joseph Hospital. He lived in Saline for 23 years in Ann Arbor for 40 years; moving to a farm on Austin Road where he raised registered Texas longhorns. He graduated first in his class from Saline High School in 1936 and received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan in 1941. He was married to Marilyn Schill at Saint John's Lutheran Church Bridgewater, Michigan on August 23, 1941. During World War II he managed an industrial filter company in Wayne, Michigan devoted entirely to products for the war effort. In August, 1944 he was instrumental in forming Pittsfield Products, Inc. As president, he developed the company into a premiere manufacturer of perforated metal and wire cloth products for the industrial strainer and filtration market. His entrepreneurial skills brought numerous innovations to the industry as well as proprietary machinery and equipment and patents that enhanced the company's growth. He has remained active with company throughout his life. For over 50 years he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor as well as the Saline Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. He loved music and generously supported the U of M in many areas including his membership in the Victors Club. A lover of boating he enjoyed many river trips in Europe with the U of M Alumni Club. He spent many winter months in Nassau, Bahamas where he made many friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Anna Klump Fosdick, daughter Kay Suzanne, a daughter-in-law Catherine Fosdick and son-in-law Thomas Dickey, Jr. Survived by his wife Marilyn, one son Theodore, two daughters Roxanne Dickey, Cynthia Fosdick, one son-in-law Robert Beattie, step sister-in-law Dorothy Mann of Manchester, eight grandchildren and many step nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fund for renovation of the Trinity Lutheran Church Organ, the Evangelical Home of Saline or a charity of one's choice.
