"A vast, intricate novel that weaves six narratives and spans from 1984 to the 2030s about a secret war between a cult of soul-decanters and a small group of vigilantes called the Night Shift who try to take them down. An up-all-night story that fluently mixes the super-natural, sci-fi, horror, social satire, and hearbreaking realism"-- Provided by publisher.

Interesting read submitted by aohall on July 29, 2015, 4:44pm This book spans decades, beginning in the 80s, as it addresses themes including science fiction/fantasy, immortality, and the future of the planet. It's told from the perspective of several fascinating characters.

Odd but good submitted by KJRULEZ on July 25, 2016, 9:27pm This book walks a thin line between literary fiction and science fiction--at times, swinging wildly back at forth. I don't think the balance between the two is done particularly well (some parts largely no-nonsense realism, while others are dripping with fantasy), but the story told is fascinating and the love in the book is beautiful. It is well-written though some sections are better than others.

a novel in linked novellas submitted by nemiller on August 22, 2024, 8:16am It's hard to review The Bone Clocks because it's essentially six linked novellas that form one overarching story. I really liked the overarching story, and I loved some of the novellas, but others just didn't do it for me. The fourth one in particular was just too winky-winky for me: An author who is accused of losing his touch because he's written a book where the main character is an author... I get it. The protagonist was so unbearably unlikable, and the humor and addition to the plot just didn't merit 110 pages of his nonsense.

I think I'd still recommend it, just with the caveat that you might not like every novella, but it's worth it for the overall story, especially if you read Slade House too.
