Started out slow, got better
submitted by marielle on July 5, 2013, 8:00pm
Have you heard of the recent Supreme Court Case of Adoptive Couple vs. Baby Girl?
Well, this is basically that book, but set 100 years ago off the coast of Australia.
The book starts out pretty slow; it details the history of the couple's relationship in the beginning, which frankly I could have done without. Personally if I were the editor I'd just chop off all the chapters leading up when the baby washes ashore.
THEN the book gets interesting, and I read the rest in one night. Worth reading, if you've got nothing better to do.
Heartwrenching, skillfully written novel submitted by eapearce on March 16, 2014, 4:49pm The Light Between Oceans was a fantastic, heartbreaking read. A couple who lives on one of the islands far off the coast of Australia and tends to the lighthouse there in the early 1900s is unable to have children. After her third miscarriage, the woman slips into a deep depression. At this point in time, a lifeboat washes up on the shore with a dead man in it and a young (alive) baby. What happens from then on seems inevitable, but grips readers until the bitter end. M.L Stedman is a wonderful writer and tells this poignant story with skill and grace. I would highly recommend this novel to anyone and everyone: readers of all genres, of all ages, and of all interests!
The Light Between Oceans submitted by Aveliney on July 3, 2018, 4:11pm Truly a wonderful book. It does start out very slow, but the exposition is needed to understand when the perspective shifts. Heartbreaking and lovely at the same time.
The Light Between Oceans submitted by kferguson on July 7, 2019, 12:25pm A good read. Actions have consequences.
