Great history submitted by tulip on July 6, 2015, 9:43am While the writing style is sometimes overly academic, the content of the book is compelling and will change the way you read all other books about the UK from this time period or even after. It will enhance your enjoyment of Downton Abbey as well!
A Day In The Life
submitted by BookNerd on June 18, 2017, 5:01pm
Deep academic research combined with lived experience showed Goodman exactly what it was like to live like a Victorian.
The dry facts are interleaved with Goodman's wry commentary. The material is organized as a morning-to-night description of a typical day, and uses period material (advertisements, diaries) as a scaffold for her own attempts to live 'in-period'.
