Good book submitted by colebr on February 22, 2010, 1:42am I read this back in elementary school. It was a really good book and reminded me of those other books about Native Americans being conqeured by the English or whatever.

Dust bowl submitted by Lindsie on June 30, 2011, 3:29pm i had to read this for a class book becuase we were learning about the dust bowl. usually class books are so horrible that when the teacher announces it you already dread the time up to actually reading it but with this book it was such an easy read but also put you into perspective of the girl

Perfect for Beginning Spanish Readers submitted by susanko91 on June 1, 2015, 10:35am Using this book for an Adult Spanish ESL reader and has proved to be very helpful. This book connects with the readers especially those who have recently immigrated from a different country. A great book that is full of realities and friendship.

GREAT! submitted by qingli on June 14, 2015, 9:09pm Great book!

Loved it submitted by melaniekv on June 15, 2015, 8:11am Thank you a million times to my fifth grade teacher. I love to book and the cover. It's so good it makes me want to cry.

It was great! submitted by jmac2579 on June 18, 2016, 6:04pm I read this in a reading group and I was wondering what the title meant. As I progressed through the book, I found that the girl was rising from all the bad things that happen to her in her life. If you are looking for a book where someone is overcoming something, I deeply recommend this book!

powerful life lesson submitted by camelsamba on June 26, 2017, 9:50pm Powerful life lesson: never be afraid to start over. If you want a good family book for summer travel, consider the book on CD. The narrator is wonderful. She even sings the song(s) (and sings well).

I love this book. submitted by caherne on August 7, 2018, 12:21pm The moral of the story is wonderful. I cant seem to stop myself from re-reading it over and over again.

Poetic and beautiful submitted by redwood on August 2, 2019, 1:11pm I've been reading this book for 15 years and still haven't gotten tired of it. Great perspectives on immigration, class (across international borders) and farmworkers' issues.
