Great Companion & Standalone submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 7:17pm This companion book to a Magic Tree House adventure also works as a standalone introduction to ninjas, samurai, and their connections to Japanese history. The book places these fighters in their historical context and offers information about the cultural developments that led to their respective periods of importance and decline. Much of the book does focus on fighting and weaponry, but I was surprised by the amount of additional information that encourages readers to learn more about the entirety of Japanese culture during the past 500 years. The reading level is a couple of grades higher than the fictional story it is tied to, but it does offer a solid introduction to the subject.
