I listened to this on Librivox, and while it's one novel of theirs that really needs some re-recording (sound problems, reader problems), I still loved it. Antonia and Jim's story is a perfectly timed allegory of what's going on in our country today, with negative sentiments about immigrants coming from less recent immigrants. It's the story of people coming to America for a better life and ending up working dawn to dusk just to put food on the table. It's neighbors working together, building communities, and the realization that everyone just wants some dignity. I also like the way the book is organized so different perspectives are seen.
My favorite! submitted by Trix on June 9, 2023, 11:24am This is my very favorite book ever! It made me feel so many emotions and raised my standards for books I read. 11/10 would read again and again.
