Slavery is back. America, 1962. Having lost a war, America finds itself under Nazi Germany and Japan occupation. A few Jews still live under assumed names. The 'I Ching' is prevalent in San Francisco. Science fiction meets serious ideas in this take on a possible alternate history.

Good thriller about an alternate reality submitted by KOH on August 27, 2018, 3:06pm I read this after watching the Amazon series by the same name. It was great to read the source material. It's a compelling page-turner!

Yo submitted by calinescus on August 2, 2019, 4:32pm I knew the premise of this book going in- "what if the allies had lost?" But what I didn't expect was the interesting focus this book had on certain spiritual practices like the I Ching- an ancient Chinese divination practice that apparently has caught on in America. I think because of the Japanese occupation? Somehow all these Americans are carrying copies of the I Ching around with them and rolling coins to read their fortunes?
Seems goofy, but it actually provides a pretty good lens through which to examine human nature, and our desire for control, knowledge, safety, and so forth.

Reading this reminded me a bit of reading Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle" or Ayn Rand's "Fountainhead," in that the characters are not so complex or compelling as the political points the author tries to make, or hint at, through their "alternate reality" world building.
