Traction Man, a boy's courageous action figure, has a variety of adventures with Scrubbing Brush and other objects in the house.

Traction Man is My Hero submitted by Caser on November 24, 2010, 4:51pm This is one of my top 5 favorite picture books of all time. Told through the perspective of the indomitable Traction Man, this is not a Disney inspired book, for the reader knows all along that Traction Man is a non-living doll whose adventures are really just in the boy's imagination. But telling this story through the doll's perspective gives the book warmth and character that having the doll come alive, or showing more of the boy's interaction with the toy would distance for the reader. Instead, we instantly become the boy first hand, as we're drawn into the exploits of a very brave superhero, even when our grandmother knits him an emasculating green yarn sweater. I'm still waiting for my nephew to get to 5 or 6 years old so I can give him this book as a present, for the language is a little too difficult for listeners under that age.

Must read submitted by klickitat on August 6, 2012, 9:34am A young boy sends his favorite action figure on daring adventures throughout his home solely with the power of his imagination. Because the text is concise and action packed this book would be a good read-aloud for a small group of young elementary school students (although some of the illustrated details are better appreciated one-on-one.) This title is very likely to spark the interest of reluctant readers, particularly boys. Second grade teacher and blogger, Eric Carpenter claims the book is a potent catalyst for his students' imaginations. School or public librarians interested in sponsoring creative writing programming might be interested in including Traction Man in their programming. This title, and its sequel, Traction Man Meets Turbo Dog, are highly recommended.

Fun to read submitted by ashflowtuff on August 17, 2015, 9:04am My kids love to follow Traction Man through all his adventures. And, from an adult perspective, all of the Traction Man books are great fun to read aloud.
