"Nick Mason is out of prison. After five years inside, he has just been given the one thing a man facing 25-to-life never gets, a second chance. But it comes at a terrible price. Nick Mason is out of prison, but he's not free. Whenever his cell phone rings, day or night, he must answer it and follow whatever order he is given. It's the deal he made with Darius Cole, a criminal kingpin serving a double-life term who still runs an empire from his prison cell.Forced to commit increasingly more dangerous crimes, hunted by the relentless detective who put him behind bars, and desperate to go straight and rebuild his life with his daughter and ex-wife, Nick will ultimately have to risk everything--his family, his sanity, and even his life--to finally break free"-- Provided by publisher.

Interesting new series submitted by jcottey on July 26, 2017, 10:48pm I love Steve Hamilton's Alex McKnight series, and now Hamilton has Nick Mason. Nick should have been in prison for 20 more years, but he is sprung early on the condition that he do whatever he is told to do by the man who arranged his release. His following these orders puts him in the map of some dangerous people. Nick wants out, but fears he may always be an owned man.

What happened to Steve Hamilton? Suddenly so much better. submitted by geneslibrary on November 30, 2019, 1:48pm I tried some of Hamilton's Michigan police/P.I. procedurals and they were ok but nothing special. Then he creates Nick Mason and he's writing a totally engaging story with interesting characters and relationships. Good job! Looking forward to a long Nick Mason series.
