Lovely Photographs of Plants submitted by sdunav on August 16, 2015, 3:21pm This new foraging book has some very nice suggestions and advice (especially about foraging sustainably and safely, considering polluted soils, pesticides, etc.), and lovely photographs of the plants, but I wasn't overly impressed with the advice for actually eating the stuff collected. Some of the plants featured are only marginally edible - tasteless or bitter - in my opinion, and even the ones that are good (like goosefoot and garlic mustard) have not so thrilling suggestions for preparation. But it's a fun book to browse, and I liked the fact that the author was from Michigan and that pretty much everything she featured is available around here (except kudzu! Why was that in here? Has it really made its way into the midwest??).

I had never heard of chaga - the fruiting body of a fungus that grows on dead or dying birch trees - so that was eye-opening for me.

Very useful! submitted by samanthar on July 19, 2022, 1:20pm This is a really useful guide to foraging. For each plant, it shows How to identify, where and when to gather, how to gather, how to eat, and future harvests (tips for sustainability). Included are cautions if there are poisonous plants it may be mistaken for. There are pictures of the plant up close, and even in various seasons for some of them, which makes identification easier. So far, this has been the best foraging guide for our area I've checked out!
