Amazing story! submitted by hathaway1066 on August 28, 2016, 3:30pm This is a great read for those interested in the Great Depression, the sport of rowing, or athletics in general. It's also a gripping biography: of a man who struggled through a difficult childhood and youth to be an olympic champion. You won't be disappointed and your time will not be wasted by this book.
Enjoy!

A Must Read for Anyone! submitted by mickplu on July 20, 2018, 8:04pm Wow! The amount of research and detail that went into this book is amazing. One of the most interesting accounts/aspects of the Great Depression and WWII, told in an underdog wins the gold style. The photos and quotes from the boy's and coach's journals added to the account. Joe Rantz, the main character, being one of the few "boys" that was alive during the research gathering, is unforgettable for his hardship and what he ultimately accomplishes.

Really good! submitted by jakabs on June 27, 2019, 4:17pm i read this in one sitting. Great story!!!
