Excellent Read! submitted by emjane on July 6, 2021, 9:59pm Fast paced, thought provoking, exciting, and even funny at times! I am not generally a sci-fi/horror reader, yet ate this book up. Highly recommended.

Not my thing submitted by valeriemates on August 28, 2021, 7:40pm Matt Ruff and I were in the same homeroom in high school, so I try to read what he publishes. But I am not a horror fan and I haven't read any Lovecraft, so this book was not my thing. The action jumped around from event to event in a way that was hard to follow, and there were enough characters that I wished the book had had a list of them to help remind me of who was who. I kept wondering if the characters were from Lovecraft and if they would have been easier to keep track of if I had read any Lovecraft first. But I don't think it's that. On the positive side, I loved the book's anti-racist viewpoint and how it showed (a white person's idea of) how hard it was like to be black many decades ago. Of the characters I could keep track of, I really liked them. They had vivid, memorable personalities.

So I sort-of recommend this book, but it wasn't a perfect match for me.

Amazing horror submitted by Mairead Seyfarth on June 18, 2022, 11:45am One of the best portrayals of the Cthulhu-style horror I've ever read. The scene-setting was amazingly descriptive and very immersive. The show is amazing but the book is even better!
