Gritty submitted by kferguson on July 19, 2016, 5:56pm gritty, rings true
Fascinating submitted by Avliss on August 3, 2017, 1:34pm Incredibly raw and captivating. This is a book that stays with you after you finish it.
Disturbing & Fascinating submitted by Beth Manuel on August 21, 2018, 7:56pm This story of a family in the throes of poverty, a young girl desperate for love with the backdrop of a pending Hurricane Katrina about to bear down. The descriptions of the land, the house, the storm, the dogfights, the broken community and the family trying to stay alive before and after the storm are riveting.
Salvage the Bones submitted by juliahoelzle on August 25, 2019, 9:37pm Ward's writing is fiercely natural and hauntingly beautiful, much like the downpour of a tropical storm or the ferocity of a loyal dog.
Intense in every way submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 16, 2022, 10:16pm This was intense in every way. It’s the story of an intense moment of time before and during and intense event in the lives of an intense set of people living out an intense family scenario. This is not a book one relaxes into. That said, it was really well done and I couldn’t put it down. I loved the ending. Things wrap, but don’t… kind of like real life.
