Not To Be Missed
submitted by Sara W on June 27, 2011, 9:48pm
An utterly engaging story of an Indian couple raising their family in America. I found myself far more invested in the relationship of the parents than in Gogol early in the book, but as it progressed, I eventually came to care about him as well.
This is beautifully written, from the very first page, I was completely captivated and absorbed this book as fast as I possibly could.

Beautifully written, but... submitted by emaelshaikh on August 31, 2016, 12:27pm ...could the protagonist be any more privileged, whiny, or opaque?
Namesake submitted by leighsprauer on April 19, 2017, 7:30pm Namesake follows the story of a first-generation Indian-American, particularly of his struggles with his unusual name. I first read the story as a novella in the New Yorker, and really liked it. Unfortunately the book only added more content, without building on or going deeper into the story. Although well-written, it seemed to drag on almost pointlessly. I did appreciate the descriptions of life as a first-generation American, and the inevitable pull of both cultures. But without much else going for it, I'm not sure I would recommend it.
