Good! submitted by emjane on July 14, 2012, 7:38pm Mindy Kaling, writer (and bit actor) on the popular TV show The Office has taken her sense of humor to a new medium—books! With her collection of essays, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns), Kaling gives readers a sense of what it would be like to be her friend—she’s spunky, loyal, and above all, funny.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, mixes stories of what brought Kaling to the world of comedy writing and acting (yes, Office fans, there’s a long chapter about the show) and her take on certain issues, such as the traits of a great guy and the rights best friends have with each other.

Kaling’s book is a lighthearted, entertaining read, and though the essays can each stand-alone, you’ll be hard-pressed not to read the book in one or two sittings.

Loved this book! submitted by Rachel S. on June 27, 2013, 8:51pm Whether or not you are already a fan of Kaling's, you will enjoy her hilarious and heartwarming book of essays. I laughed aloud throughout and couldn't put the book down. I especially appreciated the sections on day jobs in New York, unrealistic romantic comedy characters, and the awkwardness of growing up.

Mindy's Wisdom submitted by allseltz on July 2, 2013, 10:50pm Mindy Kaling specifically points out that this is not an advice book but I love her views and wisdom on everyday life. She also seems like a real person to me. Nothing fake and she's extremely relatable. I love Mindy and I think you will too. Highly recommend!!

Funny submitted by sheryl205 on July 11, 2013, 8:25pm This book was great, I was laughing outloud by the second page. Her honesty about her failures made her success even sweeter.

Fun submitted by godzilla on June 28, 2014, 11:51pm A nice light read. A great role model for girls.

Good submitted by Lucy S on July 31, 2014, 4:29am But a little bit goes a long way

Insightful submitted by darcylk on February 28, 2015, 11:22am As a huge fan of The Office and comedy writing, I really enjoyed this book and found myself struggling to put it down. I was surprised, pleasantly, to find insights into The Office and how it is made, but also how Mindy Kaling came to be who she is today: a smart, funny, accomplished woman. I recommend this book, definitely.

Fun read! submitted by ssmyth on June 27, 2015, 7:57pm Funnier than I expected. I enjoyed the fact that each section is an essay on it's own and so it's easy to read one day and put down for many days without 'getting lost'. Very enjoyable.

Love Mindy Kaling submitted by evie2017 on August 25, 2017, 6:26pm I've loved Mindy Kaling since she appeared on The Office. Her humor is so refreshing and is reflected perfectly in this book. The chapters are brief which makes this a good book for travel. The cringe-worthy stories of her teenage years coupled with the hilariously adorable photos of baby Mindy made this book a great read.

Queen submitted by cindygeer on June 27, 2018, 2:05pm Pick up this book. You won't regret it.

Audio submitted by sellis612 on July 2, 2019, 10:31pm Hilarious. I highly recommend the audio version.

Funny submitted by crp on August 24, 2019, 11:59pm This is worth reading - she is funny and relatable

Funny, but I agree little goes a long way. submitted by jgetty on June 15, 2020, 8:48am I laughed hard at the beginning of the book, and at the end, but the middle got tedious I thought. It was a little too much on the, how do I say it, maybe inappropriate topics. I liked the photos in the book of her and her family. It was good, but a bit tedious on some topics. Like I said, I found it very funny at beginning, and at the end.

Delightful! submitted by Cihendricks on August 5, 2020, 3:24pm I love this book. Mindy is a great role model for girls and young woman. Her perspective on life is refreshing, and she's just really funny.

Great escapist read submitted by ack on August 12, 2020, 6:15pm Light, fun, and surprisingly poignant. As a fellow millennial living in NYC when I read this, I resonated a lot with Kaling. But I think it’d be a great read for anyone who’s been a young woman - or just enjoys good writing.

Light and fun read! submitted by jass on August 31, 2020, 12:06am I Loved this book. I laughed out loud so many times reading this book. Mindy is a great comedic writer and this book of essays turned out to be so much fun to read. I liked the conversational tone of the book. It’s nearly impossible to put down this book without finishing the whole thing in a sitting or two.

Not my favorite submitted by tkratzer on July 16, 2022, 9:51am Let me start off with, I love Mindy Kaling! Unfortunately this book just wasn’t as great as I wish it was. Maybe my hopes were too high, but I didn’t love love love it. I finished it and I would still recommend giving it a go. Who knows? You may love it more than I did!
