lotr submitted by nasuaada on June 21, 2011, 12:57pm It is a classic, I recommend it

ending submitted by danielchen on June 29, 2011, 5:32pm sad ending

Two Towers submitted by KateTopham on July 11, 2011, 9:33pm A good penaultimate book, cliffhanger ending sets up the third book well. Although a bit slow at times, completely worth it.

Two Towers submitted by mrsaturns on June 17, 2012, 10:08pm Great Book. Builds off of the story in The Fellowship of the Ring, and leads into The Return of the King.

epic submitted by jakabe on June 22, 2012, 12:13pm CLASIC

Great Book submitted by andrewardle on June 29, 2012, 11:32am This is my favorite series! I would definitely recommend it.

Two stories submitted by kathscot on July 21, 2013, 9:03pm The Fellowship from book 1 has been split up. In this book one part tells what happens with Frodo, Sam and Gollum; the other part tells about Pippin, Merry, Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas.

The Two Towers submitted by SBNB on June 28, 2014, 9:16pm This is another great part of a great story. Sometimes, middle books or middle movies can be a letdown, but this one holds its own. It's just as good, if not better, than the other two.

middle book submitted by mjanen on July 15, 2014, 7:34pm but keeps an epic tale moving along with a great sense of adventure.

Engrossing submitted by elepling on August 4, 2018, 12:17am The pinnacle of the trilogy

Be ready to want to grab book 3 right after! submitted by crp on August 9, 2019, 8:36am Such a great read, an encounter with interesting otherworldly others, and get ready for the last book!

Amazing submitted by MHZ on June 14, 2020, 5:49pm The book is engrossing and you will want to jump into the Return of the King straight away.

Top of the Trilogy submitted by Meginator on August 20, 2021, 8:05pm This is my favorite of the three core Lord of the Rings books, with the best balance of active plot development and Tolkien’s signature extensive worldbuilding. The split between two distinct plotlines does make the book feel a little top-heavy, but it keeps each of the novel’s narratives relatively focused in an otherwise sprawling story. Despite frequent lulls, which are par for the course with Tolkien, the story generally maintains forward momentum and provides the crucial turning points in the story of the Ring’s return to Mordor. The book’s events are interesting enough to stand alone, without seeming solely like precursors to the finale (as is often the case with middle installments), although the massive cliffhangers will have you immediately reaching for The Return of the King.

Excellent submitted by TLW1998 on June 25, 2022, 11:38pm Outstanding fantasy story... what a world

The Two Towers submitted by hrgray on August 24, 2023, 11:42pm The Two Towers gives all the characters introduced in Fellowship a chance to grow and develop. Although there are some slower moments, especially towards the end of the book, there's a lot of exciting action as well. The pacing is a bit odd sometimes, but given that Tolkien didn't intend to split up the original book into a trilogy, I guess that is to be expected.
