"Draws on history, psychology, and anthropology to discuss how the tribal connection--the instinct to belong to small groups with a clear purpose and common understanding--can satisfy the human quest for meaning and belonging,"--NoveList.

Quick, intriguing look at society
submitted by terpsichore17 on June 21, 2022, 12:41pm
A fairly quick read. Because it started out as an editorial, it's been fleshed out significantly from its original shape but remains short for a book; it reads like an overview rather than a deep dive into the shape of society, the community benefits and ties borne of facing catastrophe, and what sort of trauma follows combat.
In many ways, it reminds me of Bullshit Jobs: it indicates how the shape of society/American culture sets many up to feel unconnected, incompetent, inauthentic, and what kind of damage might stem from that.
