Like a Dream submitted by DBJC on June 15, 2018, 12:08pm If you’ve never read poetry, please, please, try this short collection. As an avid poetry reader, I found Vuong’s lyricism so entrancing and beautiful. He talks about his name, Ocean, his Vietnamese mother, his American father, love, and memory. His words float from the page and create images in your mind that are so beautiful and dreamlike. There isn't a single poem that I didn't like, all of them tugging at the innermost corners of language. A true wordsmith.

Fell Flat for Me submitted by dntanzer on August 31, 2018, 3:12pm This collection had been hyped up a lot for me, but I failed to connect with it. Some of the lines were gorgeous, but as a whole, I didn't mark any poems down as favorites. It's still worth checking out, but just wasn't win for me!

Woah submitted by bcartm01 on June 21, 2022, 8:26pm I felt that many of these poems were over my head to be honest, and I wish I would have been able to spend more time delving into their meaning. What helped me give some reference to his poetry was reading his book “On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous.”

Intriguing submitted by hodgea8 on July 21, 2022, 2:51pm This book was not made for me - and I love that. It explores Vuong's family, present and past, as a family of immigrants/refugees. They were not poems I could relate to, but rather a collection that forced me to think about and feel things that I have no relationship to myself.
