Her Mother, Ingrid, is poet whose lifestyle and life decisions make for a dark and twisted path. As Astrid learns to navigate the choppy waters of her Mother's wake she is thrust from life lesson to life lesson.

The mother in this book has chosen to murder her husband and orphan her child. The child in this book suffers. But she survives and we see the beginning of her learning to overcome a trying childhood.
